What is the average cost of a headstone in the UK?
The price of a headstone will depend on the size of the memorial, the choice of materials and the length of the inscription. We offer a bespoke headstone service, so the price will always be unique to your chosen design. In the UK, you can generally expect to pay around £450 for a small cremation plaque, with larger headstones running from £800 to £2,500. Granite is typically the most cost-effective selection, while marble will be the most expensive.
What types of headstones and memorials do you offer?
We offer a wide range of memorials, headstones and gravestones. Our stone masons can work with a wide range of materials to help you to create the perfect memorial for your loved one. Materials include granite, marble and sandstone. We use traditional hand-carving techniques to create beautiful inscriptions and designs that will allow you to pay tribute to your loved one. We recognise that choosing a memorial can be a difficult task, so we can guide you every step of the way.
How long after a burial can a headstone be installed?
We generally recommend waiting around six months to a year before installing the headstone at the grave site. This will give the earth time to settle and will prevent the heavy gravestone from sinking or shifting. The exception would be if there is a pre-installed concrete plinth at the head of the grave, which will allow us to install a headstone immediately. If you do have to wait to install the headstone, you may choose to install a temporary headstone in the meantime. We recommend confirming with the burial ground or churchyard if you aren’t sure about the gravestone requirements.
Can you add new inscriptions to an existing memorial?
Yes, in addition to hard-carving new gravestones, we can also repair and restore existing gravestones and then add additional inscriptions. This is a common service for those with a family plot that needs to be updated. We can take old and dilapidated memorials and revive them to restore them to their former state. We can then add additional inscriptions to the existing design, or create more elaborate decorative elements. We can also match the styles to ensure the finished result is seamless and consistent.
How long does it take to design, create, and install a memorial?
It’s a good idea to take your time with your memorial to make sure that you get it exactly right. It typically takes around 6-8 months to design and create a memorial, but you might have to wait longer for this to be installed, so there is no reason to rush the process. We can help to guide you through the process, from confirming the requirements for the memorial, to designing a fitting tribute to your loved one.
